Ask your hairdresser to thin it out. He or she will remove hair from the underlying layers by using a haircutting method called texturizing - cutting very small portions of hair at varying lengths.

It may take some time to find a hairdresser who is good at this. It's best to get a referral from a friend or even ask a stranger who has thick but nice hair who their hairdresser is.

Good luck.

ask your stylist to "texturize it" it is a process of thinning.

if you "thin out" (its an actual process at salons) your hair, you can actually start BALDING in ur 60s so do NOT do that!!! I would recomend getting it chemically relaxed, if you want workability, there are some processes like the Japanese Straightening (i don't know what its actually called) that will last for about a year and a half..

get it thinned the next time you go to your hair stylist.

Use a straightener.

Use Garnier Fructis.

I have really really thick hair and I get it cut into lots of short layers.

If I straighten it or blow dry it straight it looks fabulous.

I hate having thick hair, but after straightening it does look nice -x

Appreciate and embrace your thick hair, it truly is a gift. But if you really want to make it appear thinner, use a gel, mousse or cream and brush it through immediately after getting out of the shower.

Hello, fellow thick-haired lass! The only way to thin it out is by having the hair dresser use a pair of thinning shears (they're scissors on one side and a comb on the other). Problem is, if you use them too much your hair becomes very choppy looking, and not in a good way. It also takes a lot of the shine and luster away. Ask your hair dresser to razor cut your hair into layers- a great way to get some of the "weight" of your thick hair off without sacrificing sheen.

Donate some to me? Tee. Hee. :)

Seriously, I don't understand why you are upset. It is a gift to have thick, beautiful hair. If your hair is short, why not grow it long? Thick hair is easier to manage when it is long. You can put it in fat, glossy braids and updos that will be beautiful and contain and control your lovely tresses.

Like you, I have extremely thick hair. I've always worn it to about shoulder length, or longer. In an effort to create more of a 'style' and get it under control, I've been having it layered for the past few years, and the hairdresser I now go to also thins out the top layers a bit so that they 'bounce' a bit more.

Having said all of this, my hair still looks and feels incredibly thick, so I've come to the conclusion that nothing really alters this - and in fact I'm glad.

You could try having your hair cut into a bob or layered bob, perhaps to about chin length? This might make your hair easier to manage. Alternatively, do what I do: tie your hair back most of the time!

But do be glad you have lovely thick hair, I'm sure it looks fabulous!
