i have the same problem. i always straighten the top layer of my hair with a high power straightener, and then use hair mousse to keep it de-frizz-ified. and i ALWAYS wear it in a ponytail.

Try the got2b Products. They are very inexpensive and I had the same problem with my curly hair as you and I love it. Nothing else makes my curls so soft and manageable and now I actually love my hair. I also use Suave Humectan Conditioner and Mane and Tail Products. All are inexpensive and do what they claim.

Straighten it with a hair relaxer, then be ready to continue doing this process along with conditioning the hair b/c hair relaxers tend to dry out your hair.

Think long and hard before to take this method.

I had the same problem. What i did was to get layers in my hair which made it nice curls not ugly poofy frizz. Also i wash my hair at night and put it in a bun, then when i wake up its super pretty curls. NEVER brush your hair when its dry that makes it super poofy. In the morning it helps to put some leave in conditioner, which will make it shiny with no fly-aways

Hope i helped =D

Don't fight your hair let it do what it wants too. For thick, curly hair, get a really good shorter cut, then buy some good products (as a beautician) such as gel or anti-frizz with silicone. You might buy a magazine with short cuts and look for models with similar hair. Go for something ultra-modern or punky looking. Don't brush or dry the hair too much. Let it dry naturally or with a diffuser. Pick out strands or wrap around fingers as you dry, so the curls look spikey or tousled.

I quit fighting my wavy thick hair a few years ago....Cut it short, gel it, dry it, and let the top just stick up...strangely someone tells me they like it almost every day, and that never happended when I spent hours styling it.

my hair is the same as yours, really curly and poofy. i had trouble styling it or even putting it into a ponytail, so i suggest putting styling mousse into ur hair when wet and a lot or hairspray, or you spend hours straightening in the morning.

i have a little tip here, ive been told that if you put "shockwaves strong control moulding wax" into your hair when straighten it can help your hair stay straight for longer.

hope this helps. :)
